LITHOGENESIS
PHILIPP FRANK /GERMANY
Music by LAUNGE & Baba Gnohm /Denmark
Location 8
An audiovisual installation by Philipp Frank commissioned for Island Of Light 2025.
Born from silence, shaped by fire and time – the ancient rock of Smögen becomes the narrator of its own creation. Caressed by the sea and carved by wind, it recalls its transformation: from cosmic stillness to molten force, from pressure to solid form. Through flowing light and ethereal sound, the artist makes visible the hidden story of matter becoming stone. A poetic journey through millions of years – abstract, immersive, and deeply moving.
ILLUMINOS UK
Location 1, 13 and 14
Illuminos are delighted to bring a brand new, never before attempted three part projection artwork to Island of Light.
For the cliff we call it Black Gold
For the boat we call it Gullbris
For the combination we call it Gullbris and the Black Gold
Black Gold is a new tale that stems from the story of the Fisherman and the Golden Fish, drawn itself from Grimm Tales. A parable of balance with nature, of asking for too much, greed and contentment. The Big Five: shrimp, oyster, crayfish, mussel, and lobster —collectively known as ‘skaldjur’ in Swedish, occupy our narrative. Black Gold, the name for Swedish Lobster, is the prize and the lure, becoming our equivalent of the Golden Fish.
A legendary gleaming jewel-like creature, sought by the fisherman, but bringing balance to the world. Voyage, storm, discovery, battle and revelation all take centre stage, playing out in a mesmerising display for Island of Light.
Gullbris- the golden breeze, complements our Black Gold projection artwork. As the name of the fishing boat captained during the event by Dennis Andersson, the boat itself becomes the canvas for the tale of a Golden Breeze. Using projectors and sound installed on the boat, the piece sails into the harbour to be observed by audience, moving gracefully across the waters as our tale unfolds. Illuminated and alive in the dark, this is a one-of-a-kind artwork and collaboration with a renowned young local fisherman and the proud fishing traditions of Smögen .
Gullbris and the Black Gold
Then join us on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, for a truly unique, never before tried projection performance, where the cliff-face story of Black Gold is combined with Gullbris, as the fishing boat takes to the seas, performing with projection and sound in tandem with the cliffside projection to tell our tale live. A blend of technology and tradition in this world first for Island of Light.

HARBINGER

Location 2
Harbinger is a portrait of a Lions Mane Medusai. A meditation on life’s journey through space and time and also a reflection on the fragility of our ecosystem and the need for greater reverence for our world.
SHAPES
ALEKSANDRA STRATIMIROVIC / SWEDEN
Location 7
Site-specific spatial installation in collaboration with the Marin Recycling Center in Sotenäs.
Shapes are forms inspired by the movement of the wind and the ever-shifting currents of the sea. They take shape for a specific site in Smögen – Villevik, a little cove nestled between ancient granite walls, with the majestic rock formation Hästen as a backdrop. Shapes are transparent figures where the play of light and the delicate translucency of fishing nets create silhouettes that seem to float. Their movement is brought to life by the deep breath of the sea and the choreography of the wind. Shapes is a continuation of my inspiring and ongoing dialogue with Island of Light and the Marine Recycling Center in Sotenäs, a collaboration where art, nature, and reuse meet in a shared exploration of form, place, and movement.

YGGDRASIL
MATEJ BIZOVICAR /SLOVENIA
Location 4
Site-specific monumental installation in collaboration with The Marin Recycling Center in Sotenäs
Yggdrasil: The Tree of Life from the Sea
The Yggdrasil light installation is named after the mighty tree from Norse mythology that connects heaven, earth, and the underworld. The tree of life archetype appears worldwide: from the biblical Tree of Life in Eden, to the Hindu Aśvattha (the sacred fig tree), the Maya’s Ceiba tree, and the Kabbalistic Tree of Sefirot—all symbols of connection, growth, and harmony.
Situated in Smögen, a fishing village deeply connected to the sea, the installation is made from discarded fishing nets, ropes, and plastics collected from the ocean. These materials, once harmful waste, are transformed into a glowing structure symbolizing renewal and hope.
At night, Yggdrasil lights up, and its reflection on the water forms roots that reach into the sea—drawing life and strength from the ocean itself. This dual image reminds us that what we throw away returns to us, and through awareness and care, we can find the roots for a new balance with nature.
APOCALYPSE
THROUGH THE SKIN
SATOSHI KUDO / JAPAN
Music by LOUISE MAGNUSSON /Sweden
Location 6
A work created through actual physical expression. The everyday life we have may appear normal but beneath the surface fundamentally different directions are on going, which can affect us with physical and psychological changes in a person's perceptions and behaviours.

PEARLS
TANJA JÖRGENSEN / SWEDEN
Location 10
Site-specific spacial Installation
The Pearl
The pearl is often seen as a symbol of beauty and love, and in everyday speech we can refer
to both people and places as a beautiful pearl. In some cultures, pearls are seen as symbols
of wisdom and they are also associated with the moon and water, teardrops of the moon.
"For this installation I like to think of pearls as moments in time representing the beauty
of life".
Tanja La Luna

of phenomena in resonance.

MYCELIUM FIELD
MATEJ BIZOVICAR / SLOVENIA
Music by JOSIP MARSIC /CROATIA
Location 5
Monumental Installation with the participation of children from Primary Schools from Sweden and Slovenia
Mycelium is an underground fungal network that plays a vital role in ecosystems:
It decomposes organic matter, recycles nutrients, and connects plant roots into a quiet, cooperative community. Invisible and often overlooked, it functions like a natural internet—exchanging information, maintaining balance, and enabling new cycles of life.
The international Field of Mycelium project draws directly from this natural logic: Decomposition, reuse, and interconnectedness. Children from diverse backgrounds create glowing mushroom-like objects from recycled materials—materials that would otherwise be discarded. Just as mycelium quietly restores the world, the project uses art to foster ecological awareness, a sense of community, and intercultural collaboration.
Each workshop and new exhibition site expands the “field”—growing organically and relationally, like nature itself. This is not merely an aesthetic display. It embodies the idea that decomposition, cooperation, and reuse are essential to a sustainable world. It reminds us that even from dark of polution, something luminous can grow - if we create it together.
